Stories of Sangla - 01

Gangarang:
Gangarang

'Gangarang' is small stream that flows not a kilometer far from the center of Sangla. This is so spiritual for the villagers, it's assumed to have medicinal properties.  Early morning you would find villagers hoping to stream side for drinking and refreshing themselves. Every stream of Sangla as I've seen is little sandy in colour.  But this is as pure as any transparent object I've come across.  I've heard from people that this stream never freezes even though rest of the streams freezes during winter and villagers use this stream for drinking water during winter.

I heard the water is medicine for asthama Patients and many more ailments.  And, have heard stories of recovery from Asthama. Its forbidden to take bath or wash car or anything here as per villagers.

The Shiva Temple
The Shiva Linga
One story of the Gangarang goes this way.  A sadhu meditating near the Arabian Sea saw a thin milky white stream extending from the sea towards the Himalayas.  He held on to it and traversed towards Himalaya.  He came to this place and reached at the birth of this stream and saw from a tree's root, this small stream emerging.

There's a belief that this stream is emerging from head of Shiva. That's where the name is derived from. There is a small temple of Shiva and a Shivlinga at corner of road. Due to landsliding, the temple is severely damaged, its under renovation.

Every moment spent in the place is a moment of peacefulness.  The trek upwards along the stream is as tiring as its peaceful.  The trek was without a breakfast and all that gave me energy was Ganagarang water.  The trek is steep and need to carve out our own path to the peak, if you ever reach the peak.

The calmness, the serenity and the beautiful landscape views is what keeps calling me each day to Gangarang.  A Holy place in its own way.

ALANIS MORISSETTE - THANK YOU

I Loved the lyrics.  Though I could not catch up even a single word while listening to song.. :-)..
What I love about the song is, it signifies the spirituality conveyed in almost all schools of Indian Spiritualism. Forgive and Accept wholly and completely.

How 'bout getting off these antibiotics

How 'bout stopping eating when I'm full up

How 'bout them transparent dangling carrots

How 'bout that ever elusive kudos

Thank you India

Thank you terror

Thank you disillusionment

Thank you frailty

Thank you consequence

Thank you thank you silence

How 'bout me not blaming you for everything

How 'bout me enjoying the moment for once

How 'bout how good it feels to finally forgive you

How 'bout taking you upon your support

Thank you India

Thank you terror

Thank you disillusionment

Thank you frailty

Thank you consequence

Thank you thank you silence

The moment I let go of it was the moment

I got more than I could handle

The moment I jumped off of it

Was the moment I touched down

How 'bout professing just how much you love me

How 'bout taking him up on a back-massage

How 'bout unabashedly bawling your eyes out

How 'bout grieving it all one at a time

Thank you India

Thank you terror

Thank you disillusionment

Thank you frailty

Thank you consequence

Thank you thank you silence

How 'bout no longer being masochistic

How 'bout remembering your divinity

How 'bout reflecting each-other in our last splendor

How 'bout not equating death with stopping

Thank you India

Thank you clarity

Thank you disillusionment

Thank you nothingness

Thank you consequence

Thank you thank you silence
